The USCCA Certified Basic Handgun Course focuses on the use of a handgun as a tool of last resort for self-defense.
The is a "Nuts & Bolts" introduction to firearm safety & self-defense. It begins with Safety, then progresses to Firearm Basics, Defensive Shooting Fundamentals, Gear & Gadgets and finishes up with Basic & Advanced Skills.
Clean What You Bring: This is a hands-on instructional workshop. Join us with the firearms you want to learn to clean, Handguns: revolvers & semi-automatics or shotguns & Rifles.
Class Description
This is a hands-on instructional workshop. Join us with the firearm you want to learn to clean, (handguns: revolvers & semi-automatics or shotguns).
If you want to learn to clean additional handguns an up-charge of $15 each will be charged.
We will supply you with everything you need to clean your gun: provide hands on & classroom instruction. You can ask the instructor any questions during the workshop that may be specific to your firearms and its needs.
Cleaning supplies will be available for purchase if you need them. (Limit 6 students).
Do not bring ammo to this course. You will need to present your gun for inspection prior to entry to the facility.
Safety is Paramount
A triple check security system is in place for any course regarding handguns/rifles/shotguns taught by 5150 HEAT Firearms Training Academy.
Do not bring ammo to this course. You will need to present your gun for inspection prior to entry to the facility. Your gun, person and bag(s) will be checked three times to ensure no live ammo is brought in – once by you, once by your instructor and once by another staff member.
You will need to ensure and show that there is no ammo in your bags, pockets or elsewhere. If you leave the classroom area and exit the building, upon your return, you will need to be cleared again for re-entry.
Bring your handgun in a gun box or gun carrier.
You will sign a liability waiver prior to the start of the class.
And, worse yet, going to the range leaves shooters with HUGE TRAINING GAPS!
The major problems with relying on live fire range training alone are:
Cost: Ammo is expensive and sometimes hard to find. Add to that the range fees, targets, gear, cleaning your weapons; your transportation to and from the range, plus the long wait times at a crowded live fire range just isn't something most of us can do every week.
Full Range of Motion: Pulling the trigger is one thing but professionals know you also need to train drawing the firearm from your concealed holster, readying the firearm, getting into a stance & grip, reloading, malfunctions and re-holstering the gun. Not only do most ranges have rules against this but it can also be very dangerous to train these skills with a fully loaded firearm.
Stationary: Real life never holds still, except at the range and you’re probably only allowed to stand still and fire at a single stationary target. This doesn't prepare you for a world where targets move and you need to move too.
Single Target: Both indoor & outdoor ranges have rules against setting up multiple targets but in real life you shouldn't bet your life on engaging a single assailant.
Rapid Fire: Not allowed, don’t even thing about it!

Men and women come to 5150 HEAT Firearms Training Academy for the same reason – SELF-DEFENSE! But, for the past year we haven’t been filling our classroom with a gender-mixture of male and female students. Our lady students no longer feel singled out, intimidated and uncomfortable. Our Instructors and our training allows the creation of an environment that’s comfortable, flexible, malleable and changeable in order to overcome decades of behavioral differences and society's expectations, i.e. we coach the soft wiring!
This course is designed for women because we’ve been inaccurately taught that they think and learn differently from men. That combined with the fact that women have unique needs and expectations as they relate to firearms & firearms training, i.e. use of force; loud noises; recoil; concealed mechanisms; jargon; etc. We’ve eliminated the awkward testosterone driven setting of coed training and in its place we’ve allowed women to learn with others who have the same behavioral/societal expectations and soft wiring, just like you. You’re invited to join our cutting-edge firearms instruction presented in a safe and comfortable classroom setting.

Specifically, Women’s Handgun and Self-Defense Fundamentals is all about sharing the basics—along with the fun, the seriousness, and the importance of being a responsibly armed female. The laser range is a state of the art dry-fire training tool that would be beneficial for anyone looking to safely train at home.
The LASER RANGE unit is really comprised of only 3 to 4 elements. There's the SIRT pistol (although any “laser ammo” style of gun will do the job), the LASR software app, a laptop, a webcam, and target(s). You can make your own targets using a variety of items from around your home. (Picture frames work well too.)
This unit is completely scalable in terms of price. If you’re serious about dry-fire training, you could create your own home laser range for under $1,000. If you think about it, that’s only 5-10 visits to a live range (when you factor in ammunition, lane rental, etc).
The Laser Range is a great long-term investment you can use over and over again... And, it will absolutely BLOW YOUR MING!
5150 HEAT Firearms Traning Academy, NextLevel Training and Shooter Technology Group have changed the world of firearms training!
GOING TO THE RANGE IS EXPENSIVE & INCONVENIENT
How It Works
LASR runs on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, or tablet and uses the camera to watch any targets for laser impacts from laser-bullet inserts or training pistols.
When LASR detects impacts, it instantly reports the hit with an audible tone, the exact location, how fast you were, and can provide diagnostic feedback.

LASR has been getting updates, improvements, and new features since 2012. It far exceeds the capabilities of any other dry-fire tool available within its price range.
You can use LASR with ANY targets including multiple targets, and it works with ANY laser device, including inserts for your real firearms and dedicated training pistols.

Private & Semi-Private Laser Pistol & Live Fire Range Training
Many students have found that private or semi-private lessons really do speed up and improve the learning process. ONE to ONE & ONE to a FEW, (ratio of student(s) to instructor) provides an optimum educational atmosphere that enhances learning development.
Off the range and back to the classroom we offer effective self-defense education designed for professional adults. In this setting we cover a wide range of topics such as: Self-Defense Firearm, Defensive Shooting, (from Fundamentals, through Intermediate & Advanced Street Combat Skills).
Plus, we offer the hard to find yet all important Legal Use of Force, Violent Encounters and their Aftermath.
Private & semi-private lessons are the best path to add Excellence & Polish..!
These fine men & women, (brothers & sisters) in law enforcement are just an example of the high caliber professionals I had the honor of working with for nearly 30 years.
Apart from my regular patrol responsibilities, in 1992, I was appointed as one of the Brea Police Department Firearms Instructor & Range Master staff. In this capacity I was able to assist other Range Masters with Brea PD's monthly duty weapon qualifications as well as, "other" types of weapon qualifications. In addition, the Range Master staff was tasked with providing instruction in different new and innovative types of police weapons and tactical training: officer survival, various police shotguns, AR-15, H&K G36 "assault rifles," combat tactics, active shooter, hostage negotiations, low-light tactics, simunition(s) and edged weapon defense.
We trained the department's officers in other new innovative police weapons known as: non-lethal weapons or less-lethal weapons or less-than-lethal weapons. These non-deadly weapons gain compliance through pain-inducing technology intended to be less likely to kill a living target. Examples: (police baton, ASP, PR-24, Taser, beanbag shotgun, pepper spray, tear gas and flashbang grenades, etc). We trained and deployed all of these conventional and non-conventional weapons and almost anything firearms or self-defense related.
In time the Brea Police Department grew to provide police services to the expanding needs of the City of Brea as well as the City of Yorba Linda. The training demands of deploying nearly 145 sworn police officers was an huge task, especially since department policy demanded that each and every officer was required to qualify with their duty weapon on a monthly basis.
-How can I help you?
Going back to recall almost five decades of law enforcement experience... Back in the day, Brea Police Department was pure "REVOLVER COUNTRY." Just Smith & Wesson and Colt revolvers only, but in a wide variety of calibers like: 38, 38 Special, 38 Special + P, 357, 357 Magnum, 45 ACP & 44 Magnum.
As time passed, our duty weapons began changing from revolvers to semi-autos. What didn't change were the wide variety of calibers and of course Smith & Wesson and Colt remained.
Many of my mentors eventually retired and eventually I became one of the department's Firearms Instructors & Range Masters.

On September 21, 2003 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Corporal Tyler Matthew Pinchot of the Buena Park Police Department passed away as a result of traumatic injuries suffered during an on-duty traffic collision.

The California Highway Patrol investigated the accident. No citations were issued and no arrests were made.

Danny Valenzuela was a friend and fellow law enforcement brother of mine. He came to the Brea Police Department on August 24, 1980, from the La Verne Police Department. Danny worked patrol for about seven years. He served as a motor officer for about three years. Danny was an excellent motorcycle rider and assisted in training several motorcycle officers. In 1990, Danny transferred into the detective bureau and became a burglary detective. He worked burglary for about three years and then moved to robbery / homicide.
Danny was part of the crime suppression unit, hostage negotiations team, and a member of the Brea Police Department Bicycle Patrol Unit. During his career with the Brea Police Department, Danny received numerous awards for his courage and leadership, including receiving the department's Distinguished Service Award in 1988.
On May 23, 1995, while participating in Police Department Bicycle Patrol training, Danny suffered a fatal heart attack. Danny became the first Brea Police Officer to die in the line of duty. He is greatly missed at the Brea Police Department. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Terry Fincher was a friend and fellow law enforcement brother of mine. He began his career with the Brea Police Department on July 5, 1979, as a reserve officer. He began as a full-time officer on February 8, 1980. Terry worked many assignments, including motors. He served as an investigator, handling several different case loads, including robbery / homicide, burglary, and narcotics. Terry was held in high regard by his fellow officers, receiving the Associate Officer of the Year in 1980 and Officer of the Year in 1981. Terry was awarded the Brea Police Department's Medal of Honor in 1987, for his actions during an encounter with a gunman.
On May 22, 1996, while investigating a crime, Terry was struck by a train and killed. Terry is survived by his wife, four children, and two grandchildren.
His name is Christopher Amoroso and at this point on that awful day the smoke and flames are so intense that people are coming down from those buildings in waves. They're coming down from both towers. They're coming down from all four sides. Strangers were holding hands on their way down, comforting one another. It take s along time to die from 90 floors up. Every second is filled with despair. The sky behind is filled with falling bodies. The air above them is filled with smoke and flames and the awful sound of those bodies hitting the sidewalk are echoing in his ears.
He’s going back. He’s going to drop off the pregnant lady. He’s going to go back into that building a fourth time. The building will fall and Christopher Amoroso will not come home to his wife and baby tonight.
He will never come home again. Do you understand that nobody told him to go?
Why does one man go up those steps again and again and again and again while thousands are coming down?
Because he’s a sheepdog.
God Bless and Keep, Port Authority Police Officer Christopher Amoroso
