A common component of all first-responder education, regardless of whether it’s for law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, or EMTs, is learning to properly assess a situation. Patient and scene assessment is broken into three parts during CPR and First Aid Classes: Primary Assessment, Rapid Assessment of the patient’s ABCs (airway, breathing, and circulation), and Secondary Assessment. These Vital First Aid Classes also include a discussion on how to use an “emergency move” to safely relocate an injured patient.
Severe traumatic injuries can be the result of serious falls, car accidents, and unfortunately even shootings or stabbings. The USCCA’s First Aid Classes address the assessment and treatment of numerous traumatic emergencies, including severe bleeding, penetrating chest injuries, flail chest, severe burns, musculoskeletal trauma (injury to the bones, muscles, ligaments or tendons), and trauma to the head and eyes.

What is a MINI-CLASS?
A Mini-Class is a shorter, in-person session which is dedicated to a singular discipline. This is perfect for those who are just starting out with their training, or those who are looking for a refresher on specific topics. Mini-Classes are modules directly pulled from the USCCA's primary “Fundamentals” curriculums and taught by Certified Instructors.
The class focuses on how to identify life-threatening bleeding and how to stop bleeding with pressure , wound packing and tourniquets. Also covers how to effectively bandage wounds including difficult areas like neck and armpit
Participants of the USCCA’s First Aid Classes discover how to control severe arterial bleeding using commercial tourniquets or improvised methods, apply compression bandages, pack wounds, and treat chest injuries. These mitigation techniques have proven effective in saving countless lives and have the potential to be deployed in everyday life.
Students who participate in a First Aid Training Class will learn how to identify sudden cardiac arrest including checking breathing status and for a carotid pulse, how to perform chest compressions, how to use an AED, when and how to perform rescue breaths, and what to do when paramedics arrive on the scene. If you ever go out in public, you need to learn the START Triage System! Students who take USCCA First Aid Training Classes explore this lifesaving system and participate in a virtual triage exercise where they are given the opportunity to triage 10 victims of a mass shooting. As the saying goes, “Your body can’t go where the mind has never been” ... and nothing is more true than when it comes to a mass casualty incident. You will automatically revert to your lowest level of training — unfortunately, that’s just how the human brain works.
While there are many diagnostic tools, medications, and devices EMS providers have access to that are simply not available to nonprofessionals, a vast majority of first-aid items can be found online or at a local drugstore. USCCA First Aid Classes help students understand what types of gear might be included in three different-sized emergency first-aid kits for civilians.
