After Every Act of Terrorism We are Told We Should Not Judge All Muslims Based On the Actions of a Few. Isn't it Time the 80 Million Gun Owners in America Get the Same Treatment?
"Hoplophobia is a mental disturbance characterized by irrational aversion to weapons, as opposed to justified apprehension about those who may wield them."
"RAGING AGAINST SELF DEFENSE"
A Psychiatrist Examines the Anti-Gun Mentality by Sarah Thompson, M.D.
This is the original article that started the debate on gun rights as a medical issue. Col. Jeff Cooper coined the term "hoplophobia," but it was Dr. Thompson who initially examined it from a medical point of view.
"You don’t need to have a gun; the police will protect you."
"If people carry guns, there will be murders over parking spaces and neighborhood basketball games."
"I’m a pacifist. Enlightened, spiritually aware people shouldn’t own guns."
"I’d rather be raped than have some redneck militia type try to rescue me."
How often have you heard these statements from misguided advocates of victim disarmament, or even woefully uninformed relatives and neighbors? Why do people cling so tightly to these beliefs, in the face of incontrovertible evidence that they are wrong? Why do they get so furiously angry when gun owners point out that their arguments are factually and logically incorrect? How can you communicate with these people who seem to be out of touch with reality and rational thought? One approach to help you deal with anti-gun people is to understand their psychological processes. Once you understand why these people behave so irrationally, you can communicate more effectively with them.

Isaiah 41:10 'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'
Retired Marine Colonel Jeff Cooper (1920-2006), well-known as an expert on the use and history of firearms, coined the term “hoplophobia” in 1962. Combining two Greek words meaning “arms” and “fear,” he sought to shift the focus of gun policy debates from behavior to motivation. Hoplophobia, then, expresses possibly why someone might oppose Second Amendment rights, even when presented with calm, rational information to the contrary.
Perhaps Colonel Cooper had recently read Freud, who wrote in 1958 that “The representation of the penis as a weapon, cutting knife, dagger etc., is familiar to us from the anxiety dreams of abstinent women in particular and also lies at the root of numerous phobias in neurotic people.” More recently, Dr. Sarah Thompson acknowledged the possibility that hoplophobia exists. Citing the American Psychiatric Association (ASA) Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), she clarified that “a person with a true phobia of guns realizes his fear is excessive or unreasonable.” Writing for Current Events in 2011, Dr. Bruce Eimer, a psychologist and firearms instructor, stated that “gun hating hoplophobes have a tremendous fear of their own or other people’s inability to control their murderous impulses in the face of the tremendous life and death power that guns are deemed to wield.” Essentially, what they say against gun owners is what they fear in themselves.
Hoplophobia is frequently dismissed as a pejorative, but Colonel Cooper wisely acknowledged the harm in dismissive name-calling, and the potential that it could backfire. He wrote in 1997 that, “To convince a man that he is not making sense is not to change his viewpoint but rather to make an enemy.” This is counter-productive. Ultimately, the goal of understanding hoplophobia is not to make enemies, but to convert enemies into allies. This may not be an entirely rational process. It requires patiently seeking to understand why someone could be afraid of firearms, and speaking to those fears. But liberating friends and neighbors so afflicted is a noble goal, and could empower them to simultaneously discover two kinds of freedom: freedom from fear, and Second Amendment freedom.

Lepa Radić was just 15 years old when the Axis powers invaded Yugoslavia in 1941. Nevertheless, this brave young woman joined the Yugoslav Partisans in the fight against the Nazis — a fight that ended in her execution at just 17.
Lepa Radic died at just 17 in her fight against the Nazis, but they were never able to break her heroic spirit.
The Conflict That Killed Lepa Radić
In the act that would eventually propel Lepa Radić into the history books, Hitler launched his assault against Yugoslavia on April 6, 1941, to secure Germany’s Balkan flank for Operation Barbarossa, his ultimately cataclysmic invasion of the Soviet Union later that same year. Facing Nazi attack on all fronts, Yugoslavia was quickly defeated and dismembered by the Axis powers.
17-year-old Lepa Radić was a Bosnian Serb who fought with the partisans during WWII but never got to see the Nazis lose the war. In February 1943, Lepa was captured. The Nazis tied a rope around her neck but offered her a way out. All she has to do is reveal her comrades’ and leaders’ identities.
Lepa responded: “You will know them when they come to avenge me.”
However, the Axis victory wasn’t entirely decisive.
While the Germans maintained tight control over the roads and towns, they did not control the remote, mountainous regions of war-torn Yugoslavia. In those towering mountains, Serbian resistance forces began to emerge from the rubble. This surge of resistance to the Axis largely divided into two main groups: the Chetniks and the Partisans.
The Chetniks were led by former Yugoslav Army Colonel Dragoljub Mihailovic, who served under the Yugoslav royalist government in exile. The Chetniks were united in name only and were comprised of various sub-groups whose interests didn’t always align. Some were fervently anti-German while others cooperated with the invaders at times. But what virtually all Chetniks did manage to agree on was their nationalist desire to ensure the survival of the Serbian population and their loyalty to the old Yugoslav monarchy.
The Partisans were diametrically opposed to the Chetniks, as their group was fiercely communist. Their leader was Josip Broz “Tito,” the head of the underground Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ). Under Tito, the Partisans’ overarching goal was to establish an independent socialist Yugoslav state by overthrowing the Axis powers.
It was into this dense, tangled conflict that young Lepa Radić threw herself when she joined the Partisans in December 1941.
She had come from the village of Gasnica near Bosanska Gradiska in what is now northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she was born in 1925. She came from a hard-working family with communist roots. Her young uncle, Vladeta Radic, was already involved in the worker’s movement. Her father, Svetor Radic, and two uncles, Voja Radić and Vladeta Radić, soon joined the Partisan movement in July of 1941.
Due to their dissident activities, the entire Radic family was arrested in November 1941 by the Ustashe, the fascist Nazi-puppet government operating in Yugoslavia. But after only a few weeks of imprisonment, the Partisans were able to free Lepa Radić and her family from prison on 23 December 1941. Lepa and her sister, Dara, then officially joined the Partisan cause. Lepa Radić courageously joined the 7th Partisan company of the 2nd Krajiski Detachment.
She volunteered to serve on the front lines by transporting the wounded on the battlefield and helping the vulnerable to flee the Axis. But this brave work is what led to her downfall.
Heroism And Execution
In February 1943, Lepa Radić was captured while organizing a rescue of some 150 women and children seeking refuge from the Axis. She attempted to protect her charges by firing at the attacking Nazi SS forces with a barrage of her remaining ammunition.
After they caught her, the Germans sentenced Radic to death by hanging. First, the Germans kept her in isolation and tortured her in an attempt to extract information over the course of three days leading up to her execution. She refused to divulge any information about her comrades both then and in the moments just before her execution.
On February 8, 1943, Lepa Radić was brought to the hastily constructed gallows in full view of the public. Moments before her hanging, Radic was offered a pardon if she revealed the names of her Partisan comrades.
She passionately responded, “I am not a traitor of my people. Those whom you are asking about will reveal themselves when they have succeeded in wiping out all you evildoers, to the last man.”
And with that, she was hanged.
The legacy of Lepa Radić, however, lives on. The execution was captured in a series of haunting photographs and she was posthumously awarded the Order of the National Hero by the Yugoslavian government on December 20, 1951.
Lepa Radić was born on 19 December 1925 in the village of Gasnica near Bosanska Gradiska. After graduation from the elementary school in the nearby Bistrica, she attended the first grade of Women’s School of Crafts in Bosanska Krupa and completed the remaining grades at school in Bosanska Gradiška.
As a pupil, Lepa emphasized the hard work, seriousness and also interested in reading advanced literature.

John Dean "Jeff" Cooper (May 10, 1920 - September 25, 2006) is known as father of the "Modern Technique" of handgun shooting. Most firearm professionals consider him to be one of the 20th century's leading experts on the use and history of small arms.
Col. Cooper is noted for his no-nonsense quotations about guns and personal defense. If you know of a gun quote from Col. Cooper not listed here, send it to us. (But make SURE it's not already listed. Okay?)
"One cannot legislate the maniacs off the street ... these maniacs can only be shut down by an armed citizenry. Indeed bad things can happen in nations where the citizenry is armed, but not as bad as those which seem to be threatening our disarmed citizenry in this country at this time."
"Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician."
"Remember the first rule of gunfighting ... have a gun."
"The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory."
"The will to survive is not as important as the will to prevail... The answer to criminal aggression is retaliation."
"Safety is something that happens between your ears, not something you hold in your hands."
"All the people constitute the militia - according to the Founding Fathers. Therefore every able-bodied man has a duty under the Constitution to become part of the 'well-regulated' militia, specifically to understand and perform well with the individual weapon currently issued to the regular establishment.... Thus one who has not qualified himself with the M-16 may not be considered to be a responsible citizen."
"Already a couple of the faithful have sent in checks for a foundation memorial to the innocents who perished at the hands of the ninja at Waco ... I have been criticized by referring to our federal masked men as 'ninja' ... Let us reflect upon the fact that a man who covers his face shows reason to be ashamed of what he is doing. A man who takes it upon himself to shed blood while concealing his identity is a revolting perversion of the warrior ethic. It has long been my conviction that a masked man with a gun is a target. I see no reason to change that view."
"One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that 'violence begets violence.' I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure — and in some cases I have — that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy."
"The purpose of the pistol is to stop a fight that somebody else has started, almost always at very short range."
"Bushido is all very well in its way, but it is no match for a 30-06."
"A free man must not be told how to think, either by the government or by social activists. He may certainly be shown the right way, but he must not accept being forced into it."
"The conclusions seem inescapable that in certain circles a tendency has arisen to fear people who fear government. Government, as the Father of Our Country put it so well, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. People who understand history, especially the history of government, do well to fear it. For a people to express openly their fear of those of us who are afraid of tyranny is alarming. Fear of the state is in no sense subversive. It is, to the contrary, the healthiest political philosophy for a free people."
"Hoplophobia is a mental disturbance characterized by irrational aversion to weapons, as opposed to justified apprehension about those who may wield them."
"The media insist that crime is the major concern of the American public today. In this connection they generally push the point that a disarmed society would be a crime-free society. They will not accept the truth that if you take all the guns off the street you still will have a crime problem, whereas if you take the criminals off the street you cannot have a gun problem."
"In the larger sense, however, the personal ownership of firearms is only secondarily a matter of defense against the criminal. Note the following from Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
"The 1911 pistol remains the service pistol of choice in the eyes of those who understand the problem. Back when we audited the FBI academy in 1947, I was told that I ought not to use my pistol in their training program because it was not fair. Maybe the first thing one should demand of his sidearm is that it be unfair."
Liberals have been clamoring for some time to have "common sense" gun laws enacted. That sounds reasonable. Then, they proceed to regale us with the need for laws that are already on the books, or impractical ideas that would never work. Never fear! I have a solution.
It's not a new law per se, but something that every liberal who is serious about solving the problem can do. It might cost a few bucks up front, but, as you're always telling us, "If it saves just one life it'll be worth it", so I expect close to 100% participation. (Stop laughing!)
Now to be honest, I am basing this solution based on what hundreds of liberals have told us about the ease of buying a gun. We've been told that it's literally easier to buy a gun than to buy a book. Teen Vogue recently regurgitated liberal talking points reminded us that it's:
* Easier to buy a gun than get a driver's license
(which is a neat trick, since you need to obtain a driver's license to buy a gun, so technically you have to do MORE to buy a gun!)
* Easier to buy a gun than to adopt a pet
* Easier to buy a gun than to get married
* Easier to buy a gun than to get an abortion, and
* Easier to buy a gun than to get an internship or a full time job.
At first, I thought I would challenge liberals to attempt to purchase a legal handgun, to see just how much more difficult it is than they imagine. But then, I thought, what is the liberal going to do with that gun? They don't want it, don't know how to use it or properly store it. In their hands, it could become a hazard. But what if every liberal committed to the elimination of gun violence were to purchase a gun illegally?
Hear me out, this is good! Liberals tell us it is easier to buy an illegal gun than to buy a book, so, why don't they just prove to all us hard-headed, gun-toting conservatives just how easy it is? Here's what you do...go down to wherever you think it is that illegal guns are sold...street corners, back alleys, gun shows...wherever! Take cash. Most criminals probably aren't set up to take MasterCard or Visa. Purchase the gun for cash. You can haggle a little, but remember...
"if it saves just one life it''ll be worth it". So don't be cheap.
http://www.leftcoastrebel.com/2017/11/a-common-sense-solution-to-illegal-guns.html
Next, you take the gun directly to the nearest police station. They can dispose of it for you and also check to see if it's been used in any crimes. And then, this is the good part, you tell the police exactly where you bought the gun and give a description of the person who sold it to you. If possible, try to drop the gun into a bag and maybe it will have some usable fingerprints for the police. Take video of the exchange if you can do it surreptitiously. It may not hold up in court for putting this guy away, but should go a long way in mitigating any charges towards you for purchasing an illegal firearm.
It's a veritable threefer! You have irrefutable proof of just how easy it is to buy a gun, shutting the mouths of all those pro-gun types. You have taken an illegal firearm off the street AND taken an illegal gun dealer off the street as well! What more could you ask for? If it's that easy to buy a gun, it's just common sense, right? If liberals from coast to coast take millions of illegal guns off the street and likewise thousands of illegal gun dealers, everybody wins! Right?
So, what'll it be liberals? Up to the challenge? Beuller? Bueller??
Commenting here is a privilege, not a right. Comments that contain cursing or insults and those failing to add to the discussion will be summarily deleted.
Liberals constantly scheme and plot to institute more gun regulations because they naively believe that criminals obtain guns the same way as everybody does — by buying them from a reputable online or in-person dealer.
Not surprisingly, liberals could not be more wrong…
According to a survey of 100 Cook County Jail inmates by the University of Chicago Crime Lab, criminals — or at least the ones at this particular jail — primarily obtain their weapons from “personal connections” on the streets.
Approximately 70 percent of the criminals surveyed revealed that “they got their guns from family, fellow gang members or through other social connections,” reported the
The majority of criminals surveyed were likely felons, so they wouldn’t have been permitted to legally purchase a weapon from a dealer regardless.
“Some of the pathways people are concerned about don’t seem so dominant,” the crime lab’s co-director, Harold Pollack, explained to reporters.
He meant that the concern about criminals obtaining their weapons from the tried and true way were unnecessary, if not outright silly.
The survey also found that most of the criminals preferred handguns to military-style assault weapons like the AK-47, which by the way liberals would absolutely love to outlaw.
The moral of this story, courtesy Breitbart, is simple: “[B]ackground checks place a burden on law-abiding citizens which criminals easily avoid” by simply not following the law in the first place.
Bingo!

Across the country, criminals are arming themselves in unexpected ways. In Florida, they’re stealing guns from unlocked cars and gun stores. In other places, they’re getting them from the police themselves, as cash-strapped departments sell their used weapons to buy new ones. On this episode of Reveal, we learn where criminals get their guns and what cars can teach us about gun safety.
Laura Morel of the Tampa Bay Times reports on an epidemic of gun thefts in Florida and how many of those guns are being used to commit crimes. Some of those weapons are taken, (stolen during break-in/burglaries) from gun stores while others are stolen from cars whose owners don’t bother to lock them. Morel discovered that on average, a gun was stolen every hour of every day last year.
Alain Stephens of Texas Standard reports on a surprising source of guns for some criminals: the police themselves. Across the country, cash-strapped departments are selling their used pistols and shotguns to help pay for new weapons. When Stephens tried to find out how many former police guns end up in crimes, he discovered this information is a closely guarded secret because of laws passed more than a decade ago to suppress tracing information.
Reveal’s Stan Alcorn looks at another public safety threat that used to be responsible for more deaths each year than guns: automobiles. While gun deaths have remained about the same for decades, car deaths have declined dramatically. That decrease began when the government started collecting data on car accidents and passing it on to carmakers, which used it to design safer cars. Public safety advocates say what happened with cars could serve as a model for reducing gun deaths.
Shocking news from a survey of Cook County, Illinois, prisoners reveals that criminals obtained guns mostly from their social network of personal connections, rarely by direct purchase from a gun store or theft (not that prisoners would admit to stealing them).
Other common arrangements include sharing guns and holding guns for others.
In other words, criminals aren’t walking into gun shops or gun shows to purchase guns. But, rather seeking weapons from people they know and trust — people who know full well that they’re giving or selling a gun to someone who can’t legally own it...
The idea that they’ll suddenly stop transferring or selling these guns if they’re also required to run a background check is almost comical. As usual, it’s as if all the “anti crime” gun-control proposals we hear were mostly meant to make it harder for ordinary, law-abiding people to buy guns.
Copy that..!
Carry Your Gun in Church? Hell Yes!
Let’s talk about carrying a gun in church. For some, the very idea of carrying a gun in a church is repugnant. For others, well, it is a fact of life. Personally, I am more upset with the idea that we NEED to carry guns in houses of worship than I am about the fact that people do carry guns in houses of worship.
Evil has come to our churches. We have seen it. If you are not ready to stop an attack on your church, then you should be ready to take cover and hope your prayers work.
As with any mass shooting event, shot selection, target isolation, and your ability to hit your target under stress and massive confusion are paramount. The best advice is to seek cover and hold your fire until you know beyond any doubt you can stop the threat. You may have to learn to shoot on the move; send your family toward safety and crush the distance between you and the attacker to stop him immediately. The options are endless and the training for such eventualities should not be taken lightly.
This short column should by no means be considered training in the elements of defending a house of worship. This is simply me starting the discussion. Think about this. Think about the number of attacks on churches and start developing a plan and the skills to defend against such an attack.

In the Aftermath
(Name, Rank, Serial Number & Date of Birth)
It is called the “post incident” and I have interviewed many individuals — some lawfully carrying and some not — who could have used the time immediately after (and frequently before) an incident to sit down and think. Not to invent an excuse or a lie; not to rearrange the evidence, dispute the facts or call momma; but just to take a deep breath and compose themselves.
By joining the USCCA, you become eligible for a range of benefits, from legal assistance to training opportunities to — perhaps the most important benefit — affiliation with a community that cares and thinks as you do. A community that, I deeply believe, shares your essential values.
And so I recall, when my annual membership came up for renewal, one of the most valuable items I received from the USCCA was a very small card, the kind that fits into your wallet. It details “Post-Incident Instructions.” This simple card recommends that, following a self-defense situation, you should first call 911 and when the police arrive — response times to a shooting are routinely faster than for other types of crime — you are only obligated to say and do the following:

Lost or Stolen Firearms Investigations
Each year, thousands of firearms are reported lost or stolen. The owners’ ability to adequately identify these firearms is central to law enforcement’s ability to investigate these crimes and losses. Insurance claims and re-acquisition of recovered firearms will also hinge on the ability to correctly identify these firearms.
By completing this record and maintaining it in a safe location, separate from your firearms, you will be not only protecting your own property, you will be taking an important first step in the effort to prevent thefts and to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals. This is a personal record only. The information will not be collected or maintained by ATF or any other Federal Government agency

The Pernicious Pinkification of Little Girls (Excerpt from my Blog)
This is an oversimplification… But, scientists say that behavioral differences between the sexes are not hard-wired at birth, but are the result of society's expectations.
In fact, there are no major neurological differences between the sexes. There may be slight variations in the brains of women and men, but the wiring is soft, not hard. It’s flexible, malleable and changeable. Yes, there are basic behavioral differences between the sexes, but we should note that these differences increase with age because our children's intellectual biases are being exaggerated and intensified by our gendered culture.
Children don't inherit intellectual, behavioral and societal differences. They learn them. They are a result of what we expect a boy or a girl to be.
Thus, I call it the Pernicious Pinkification of Little Girls!
