NRA Basic Personal Protection series.
5150 HEAT’s flagship program for personal protection training is the NRA Basic Personal Protection series. It is based on a building-block concept offering a series of three courses that progress from basic to advanced. Each of the courses is approximately one day long. The one-day format allows students to take the series on a flexible timeline that fits their personal schedule and needs.
The first course in this series is the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course (BOPS), which develops in students the basic skills of handling, shooting and cleaning a firearm. The ground rules and practice of firearm safety are fundamental aspects of BOPS. New gunowners, as well as experienced shooters, are well served by the knowledge this course teaches. Participants will shoot a course of Fire with three levels of difficulty and achieve a rating.
The second course in the series is the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home (PPITH) course. It builds on BOPS (Basics of Pistol Shooting) and places that knowledge in the context of home defense. In PPITH, participants learn to use defensive techniques such as the “flash sight picture.”
The third course is the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home (PPOTH) course. This course teaches the skills necessary to safely carry a firearm outside the home and use it in context of self-defense or defense of others. Students are taught the pros and cons of various carry methods. Live fire exercises give students hands-on experience of defensive shooting and how to draw from a holster.

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course (BOPS)
Our comprehensive curriculum covers everything from basic firearms safety to advanced tactics and techniques. We offer courses on a variety of topics, including marksmanship, self-defense, and home defense.
NRA Basics of Personal Protection INSIDE The Home
This is an eight-hour (((PLUS))) course. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.
Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Tuition: $180 + Range Fees & Ammo

NRA Basics of Personal Protection OUTSIDE The Home
The course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. Students have the opportunity to attend this course using a quality strong side hip holster that covers the trigger, or a holster purse. From a review of safe firearms handling and proper mindset to presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions, this course contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation. This is a 1-1/2 to 2 day course so please plan accordingly

ONLINE Non-Resident California CCW LICENSE Course
NON-RESIDENT 16 HOUR INITIAL ONLINE CCW APPLICATION COURSE
This course is intended to be taken by people residing outside of California that want to obtain a license to carry concealed while visiting the State of California. This course meets all of the requirements in the California penal code outlining the requirements for the 16 hour course as required by California law. The student will still need to perform a live-fire shoot that will be provided by the agency with whom they apply.
Completion of this 16-hour online course and your live-fire qualification will enable you to apply for your California CCW with an agency in a county where you intend to visit. This course is broken down into multiple sections containing lessons of instruction that you will be quizzed on at the end of each section, along with a Final Exam covering all course content. Course Content
Welcome to your California-mandated 16-Hour Non-Resident California CCW class. Completion of this online course and your live-fire qualification will enable you to apply for your Non-Resident California CCW with an agency in a county where you intend to visit.
This course is broken up into multiple sections of instruction that you will be quizzed on at the end of each section. A 50-question final exam will be administered at the end with a passing requirement of 80%.
You must complete this course within 90 days from purchase, or you will be locked out, lose your progress, and be required to repay and start over.
You must complete the entire section before you will be able to complete each section’s quiz. Please pay attention to the timer at the bottom of the screen, the timer must expire before you can advance to the next section.
You may start, stop, and resume as much as you wish, but you will not be able to move on to the next section until you have completed the previous section and passed the section quiz.
Once you have completed the course, you will be able to print and/or save your certificate of completion. You will need to provide your certificate of completion to your issuing agency along with your form for completion of your “live-fire” qualification with your local instructor. The shooting portion of your test will be provided by the issuing agency, NOT California Online CCW.

This course is broken down into multiple sections containing lessons of instruction that you will be tested on at the end of each section and a Final Exam covering all course content. You may start, stop, and resume as much as you like. You must complete the lectures or reading segment before you will be able to complete the segment test. Each lesson is timed to meet California State Requirements of 16-hours. You 90 days to complete this course from time of purchase.
Once you have completed the course, you will be able to print or screenshot a certificate of completion. You will then take that certificate to your affiliate for your “live-fire” qualification. The shooting portion of your test can be completed according to the affiliates instructions within the course. In some cases, scheduling of an appointment may be required for the live-fire qualification along with a qualification fee. A renewal course will be required every two years to renew your California CCW, once your initial permit is issued.
